On Thursday November 1, 2018, the Food Micro foundation organized the symposium “Microbial Toxins in Food and Feed” in Hotel de Biltsche Hoek, De Bilt, the Netherlands. Around 60 people working in industry, trade and education (mainly from the Netherlands and Belgium) participated. Various topics on mycotoxins and bacterial toxins in relation to food and feed were treated. Jos Houbraken, group leader of the Applied and Industrial Mycology Research group of the Westerdijk Institute, gave the key note lecture on mycotoxins. He also provided information on which mycotoxins are important in food, and effects of those toxic compounds on men and animals. Bart Kraak and Jos also staffed the booth of the Westerdijk Institute, which attracted many people. There were lively discussions and interesting questions from participants, and new potential collaborations have been initiated. More information: www.foodmicro.nl (in Dutch).
